One Step Away is hosting our 6th Annual Knock Out Homelessness charity event to continue our fight to end homelessness in Philadelphia, and you're invited! Come to Chickie’s & Pete’s South Philadelphia on May 12th to be part of the champion charity party: food, drinks, video games, silent auction, celebrity appearances, raffle prizes and more.
Knock Out Homelessness honors and remembers world champion boxer Matthew Saad Muhammad (1954–2014) for his dedication and commitment both inside and outside of the ring. The event is inspired by "Miracle Matt's" own personal triumph over homelessness, and in his honor we will continue to fight to end homelessness.
All proceeds benefit One Step Away, Philadelphia's street newspaper produced and distributed by people working to break the cycle of homelessness.
We are very pleased to announce that veteran Philadelphia sportscaster Bill Vargus will be hosting Knock Out Homelessness!
A familiar face to any sports fan in Philadelphia, Vargus is an Emmy-winning broadcaster who has worked with WHYY, KYW, and FOX29, covering the Eagles, Flyers, Phillies, and 76ers. He is also a boxing enthusiast, so who better to help us Knock Out Homelessness?

ABOUT ONE STEP AWAY
One Step Away is Philadelphia's first street newspaper aimed at raising awareness of homelessness and providing employment to those in need. Vendors purchase each newspaper for 25¢, and distribute the papers for $1 donations on the street. With each dollar received, 75¢ goes directly to the vendor. One Step Away vendors work to overcome difficult life challenges, including homelessness and poverty. While the vast majority of vendors are living on the street or in temporary shelters when they start working with One Step Away, most are able to use the money they earn distributing newspapers to obtain or maintain housing. For 82% of our vendors, One Step Away is their only source of income.
