Building the Next Generation of Leadership:  Guiding Family Businesses Through Management Transitions

Participants will be guided through the process of using practical leadership competency analysis and leadership development to elevate family enterprise.  The latest trends and themes in attracting and retaining talent for the family enterprise will be highlighted.  Participants will go through a process of recognizing the strengths and limitations of family members and staff outside the family, highlighting the value in understanding leadership competencies as critical levers in producing meaningful leadership at all levels of the organization. 

Workshop Goals & Objectives:

  • Understand the value of making strategic decisions.  Participants will be provided with a rich toolset to position themselves as key business partners at the helm of successful leadership change initiatives.  Review a practical case study and experience an interactive discussion.
  • Strategize for managing transitions more smoothly and effectively.
  • Manage yourself and other better for more effective and productive collaboration.
  • Be up-to-date with the latest trends in attracting and retaining talent for the family enterprise, and how to use this knowledge to the best of your advantage.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the leadership template, outlining competencies, and understanding how to formulate a plan for assessing competence.
Learning Outcomes:
  • Gain self-awareness of individual leadership styles to develop, manage and motivate more effectively.
  • Learn how to identify critical points of the business and people in terms of competency development, transition, retention, engagement and success plans (both family employees and staff outside of the family).
  • Provided tools to design and understand leadership templates, outline competencies required and identify what is lacking to create an appropriate leadership transition model.
  • Learn about the stages involved in transitions and what youc an do to support change and strengthen the process in family business.
  • Understand the true value of building a succession plan that elevates senior leadership in family enterprise as proactive and strategic organizational design artists prepared for change.
  • Provided tools to formulate a measuerable plan for leadership competency development to integrate business units and managerial practices.  Take-away action items you can utilize in enhancing talent management and leadership development strategies in family enterprise.

Your Own Personal Leadership Portfolio:

Each participant will walk away with a Leadership Portfolio that will include the following:

  • A Predictive Index (PI) leadership survey (How I am wired to be a family business leader) - details
  • A PI Learning Indicator (What is my speed of learning score) - details
  • A Leadership Performance Indicator - a specialized leader 360 - details

Presenter:

David Osborne is the Vice President of Preditive Success Corporation.  For the past nine (9) years, David has been partnering with Canada's best manage organizations, focusing on family enterprise.  David uses workforce analytics and his extensive consulting background to optimize and enhance family businesses across Canada.  As a graduate from Acadia University, David has been identified by clients as a performance driven, persuasive and enthusiastic team leader, consultant and trainer.  His concentration on family enterprise is centered upon finding and hiring top talent, building teams and leaders, building trust and managing change and influencing productivity and sales performance.
