Course Description
Training Scientists as Managers.  At FAES, we understand that many science professionals, while extremely prepared in their scientific disciplines, may have had little experience or education in business management. We understand that preparation to become a laboratory manager or scientific director is oftentimes neglected in scientific training programs. Therefore, to bridge the gap between science and business, this course will train new and experienced scientists in the core supervisory and management competencies necessary to become an effective supervisor or manager.

Course Outline:

Day I: Managing Your Human Resources 
• An Introduction to Leadership & Scientific Leadership
• Laboratory Management 101 - Roles and Responsibilities
• Staffing your Laboratory
• Manager - Employee Relations 

Day II: Core Skills for Managers
• Making the Transition from Individual Contributor to Management 
• Strategies for Building and Sustaining Effective Teams
• Strategies to Manage Conflict in the Laboratory

Day III:  Self-Management and Personal Mastery
• Self-Mastery
• Understanding and Using Emotional Intelligence (EI) in the Workplace
• Understanding Your Personality
• Reflective Thinking: The Forgotten Leadership Practice

Continuing Education Credit: 3 Days / 2.1 CEU's

Refund Policy 

• 100% tuition refund or 100% full workshop credit is available for registrations cancelled 14 or more days prior to the start of the workshop.    
• 50% tuition refund or 100% full workshop credit is available for registrations cancelled between 4 to 13 days prior to the start of the workshop. 
•  0% refund, 100% full workshop credit is available for registrations cancelled      3 days or less prior to the start of the workshop.  

Notification

• All cancellations must be received in writing via email to Ms. Carline Coote at ccoote@mail.nih.gov.
• Cancellations received after hours are time marked for the following day.  
• In regards to a full or partial refund or a full workshop credit, you must indicate which option you are selecting at the time of your written cancellation. 
• All refund payments will be processed by the start of the initial workshop.
