Exchanges is an evening program to spark discovery, learning and discussion about the past, present and future of science and medicine.

Join us for “Cardiac Kids,” a short 15 minute talk by author, historian, and TEDx speaker Brandy Schillace, as she shares the story of Cleveland’s real Cardiac Kids. The Cardiac Kids aren’t the Browns of the 80s, but the cardiac surgeons of the 1950s and 60s—doctors who took risks and pioneered innovations. This program will look at the past and discuss the present and future of cardiac care from implantable defibrillators to new endovascular innovations.

The presentation includes a panel discussion with leading experts in cardiac care, including:

  • Karl West, M.S., Director Medical Device Solutions, Cleveland Clinic
    Lerner Research Institute
  • Dr. Sahil Parikh, Interventional Cardiologist, UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute
  • Dr. William Lewis, Chief of Cardiology and Director of the Heart and Vascular Center, The MetroHealth System

We will end with a public forum where questions and thoughts will be heard and shared.

This lecture event will be held downtown at the Global Center for Health Innovation. The Global Center is located at 1 St. Clair Avenue NE, just across the street from the Marriott Downtown at Key Center.

Want to continue the dialogue and sharing of ideas?

We're hosting an Exchanges: Cardiac Kids after hours immediately following the lecture program on 2/9 from 8-9 pm at Market Garden Brewery, 1947 W 25th St, Cleveland, OH 44113 Ohio City. All are welcome.
