Join us to celebrate International Week by discussing the topic of intercultural issues on January 29th with researchers, policy makers, employers, and community/continuing care providers. We will look at the perspectives of both caregivers (staff/providers) and care recipients (residents/family members) on this important issue. 


Agenda: 

9:00 - 9:15 AM: Coffee and registration

9:15 - 9:20 AM: Introductions/Opening - Sandra Woodhead Lyons

9:20 - 9:30 AM: Overview of RAPP & ICCER - Janet Fast & Sandra Woodhead Lyons

9:30 - 10:30 AM: Speaker presentations

  • Jake Evans, Intercultural Communication Facilitator, Centre for Intercultural Education, NorQuest College.  Jake will speak about intercultural issues from the perspective of the caregiver.
  • Lori Shortreed, Consultant, Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative Ltd. Lori will be presenting on developing a tailored approach to diversity management and intercultural practice within the disability service provider sector in Edmonton. 

Participants will be invited to jot-down thoughts & discussion topics on sticky notes to share with the group after the panel presentations.

10:30 - 10:45 AM: Large group discussion on speaker presentations (sticky note topics)

10:45 - 11:00 AM: Coffee and networking

11:00 - 11:20 AM: Small table discussion 

11:20 - 11:40 AM: Rotate tables; New table discussion
