North Carolina Foundations of Mathematics Training focuses both on developing an understanding of the fundamentals of mathematics and on classroom habits that develop an emphasis on number sense for a coherent presentation of mathematics. During the workshop the Components of Number Sense model is utilized to: 1) increase teacher knowledge about mathematics and 2) support teacher movement away from strictly procedural lessons and towards a habit of emphasizing discussions that develop number sense in their students.
