Major Giving – Best Practices & Common Mistakes

Few things will have as positive a potential impact in helping your organization take a leap forward in fulfilling your goals as becoming good at securing major gifts, but even some seemingly small decisions can tip the balance between success and failure. This session will review five best-practice tips to help ensure success, as well as five common mistakes that can sink a major gift program, and will highlight the single most important thing you can do to make you more successful in major gift fundraising.

Our discussion leader will be Brent Hafele, M.A., Vice President of Client Services at Dickerson, Bakker & Associates. Brent provides counsel on a variety of nonprofit leadership areas, including capital campaigns, major donor fundraising, strategic planning, nonprofit leadership, board/governance relations, and vibrancy planning. In addition to his consulting work, Brent is a popular speaker at national, regional, and local conferences on nonprofit leadership and fundraising. Brent is also a faculty member of the University of St. Thomas’s Fundraising Certificate Series, where he teaches courses on capital campaigns and nonprofit marketing. He earned an M.A. in Philanthropy and Development from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.
