Feb. 9 Follow the Money Learning Session (dinner provided)

Funding of education in Washington State remains the greatest challenge we face. We all know that the State’s “paramount duty” is to amply fund basic education; it is written in Article 9 of the Washington State Constitution. But what has the legislature done to amply funding education so far? Many partners in the Road Map Project came together to fund a study that can shed light on this question, and many more pressing questions.

Join us for one of several learning sessions on education funding and the role it plays on closing the opportunity gap, specifically here in the Road Map Project region. Our consultant from Third Sector Intelligence, Haid Garrett, will offer a briefing on the findings from various phases of the research and provide attendees answers and a foundational understanding to questions such as:

  • How does the state decide how much money to send school districts?
  • How much additional money have districts received thanks to the McCleary ruling?
  • What are the sources of money school districts rely on?
  • Is the state fully funding basic education?
  • Much, much more!

Partners supporting the research include: CCER, League of Education Voters, Youth Development Executives of King County, School's Out Washington, Washington STEM and College Success Foundation.
