 In this 3-hour workshop, followed by a 1-hour group-consulting-session Danetha Doe will teach you how managing your books properly will help you reach your financial goals and the many time and money saving tools you have at your disposal while using Xero.

Section One: Why is bookkeeping important, terminology and basics 

  • The real reason why you need to do your bookkeeping. 
  • Why it's not just filing taxes. 
  • Why using a bookkeeping program is the BEST upgrade for your business 
  • Bookkeeping & accounting terminology every business owner should know 
  • The difference between the financial reports and how to use them in the year. 
  • The step by step process on how to set up your bookkeeping program to be tax-compliant and easy to use 

Section Two: Xero set-up 

  • How to set up Xero 
  • Establish your weekly bookkeeping date and learn how to "do your books"
  • The tasks you need to take every month, quarter and year in order to stay on top of your finances 
  • What to do when you fall behind in your bookkeeping 
  • What to do with your pile of paper receipts and bank statements 
  • The importance of separating your business and personal expenses 
  • How to choose the right business bank account for your company 

Section Three: Use bookkeeping to make financial and business decisions

  • Create a 3-month and 12-month business budget 
  • How to pay yourself a consistent salary
  • How to read your financial statements to determine if you are ready to hire an employee
  • How to use your financial statements and bookkeeping to attract investors
  • The seven accounting habits of successful business owners.

You must bring your laptop as you will practice.

Instructor: 

 Danetha Doe is an entrepreneur, media personality and branding strategist. With a background in accounting she was selected as one of the Top 40 Under 40 Accounting Professionals in 2015 by CPA Practice Advisor. She is the author of the self-published 52-page guide, "The simple guide to accounting and financial strategy for new entrepreneurs". She has been featured on Huffington Post Live with Suze Orman, and her photo graces billboards throughout California's Bay Area as a brand ambassador for Bike East Bay. She is the host of #FutureofMoney, a video series sponsored by Libra, maker of tax compliance software for blockchain technologies, where she interviews leading financial professionals about FinTech. Danetha assists with business coaching at the Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center, helping underserved communities build successful businesses.
