BROUGHT TO YOU BY THESE PARTNERS & SPONSORS

iCan Bike National Program
Summer Bike Camp

What is iCan Bike Camp?

A program that teaches individuals with disabilities how to ride a conventional bike and become a lifelong independent rider!

Success in learning to ride a bicycle is a major accomplishment for attendees and builds confidence and an improved self-image. Nothing is more inspiring than seeing a group of bike camp participants ride a conventional bike completely independently.  By the end of the five day camp over 80 percent of riders learn to ride their bikes completely independently.

How does it work?

This program uses a fleet of adapted bicycles, a specialized instructional program and a trained staff to teach individuals with disabilities how to ride a bike. Riders attend 75-minute sessions each day for five consecutive days and are partnered up with community volunteers who provide physical assistance, encouragement and serve as spotters.

Over the course of the five day camp, the adapted bike is adjusted to gradually introduce more instability in an effort to challenge riders at their own individual pace.

The week concludes with a touching and inspiring award ceremony.

Who should attend? Riders must meet these requirements:
  1. Minimum of eight years of age. Teens and adults also welcome.
  2. Able to sidestep to both sides
  3. Have a disability
  4. Able to attend camp all five days
  5. Able to walk without assistive device
  6. Maximum weight 220 lbs.
  7. Willing and able to wear a properly fitted bike helment
  8. Minimum inseam of 20" (measure from floor while rider is wearing sneakers)

Cost per rider for each week long session is $250.00.
Note: If you are currently receiving the waiver, this program may qualify for funding. Contact your county worker for more information.
