About Us

Precision University is a forum for providing centralized training and education on specialty gas filling. The University is a service provided by Precision Specialty Gas Products (PSGP), a Weldcoa Company, in partnership with AsteRisk. AsteRisk’s President Tom Badstubner is well known in the industry as an expert in Specialty Gases.

The University’s focus is to certify participants in complete specialty gas filling using the 18,500 square foot facility in Aurora. The facility boasts a completely functioning specialty gas filling facility complete with analytical equipment.

Precision University’s curriculum addresses the need for proper education and training by developing skill sets in specialty gas filling through both classroom and hands-on instruction. The programs focus on all aspects of specialty gas filling and testing. Participants in the programs will be certified in mixing specialty gases, gas chromatography and process instrumentation. Basic and advanced seminars are available.

Advanced Gravimetric Mixture Filling

This course is designed for specialty gas mixture personnel who are already comfortable making gravimetric mixtures and who need advanced training. It is a 2.5-day lecture with hands-on lab exercises.

Topics include:

•

Advanced mixture strategies and case studies

•

Cylinder passivation

•

Optimizing base/pre-mixtures

•

Advanced gravimetric fill techniques (micro cylinders, loops, syringes)

•

Hydrocarbon blends

•

Liquid blends

•

Fuel/oxidizer mixtures

•

Other potentially reactive mixtures

•

Mixture stability

Advanced Gas Chromatography

This course is designed for personnel with a solid foundation in chromatography who need to obtain the maximum performance from their gas chromatograph. We focus hands on attention to ionization gas chromatographs. Nevertheless, many of the advanced principles can apply to other detectors (TCD, etc.). It is a 2.5-day lecture with hands-on lab exercises.

Topics include:

•

Each attendee will receive “hands-on” experience with several chromatographs

•

GC measurements and chemical property analysis

•

DID GC components

•

Advanced chromatography techniques: conditioning for PPB analyses, optimization of flow circuits, etc.

•

Advanced ionization detector theory and practice

•

Integrator/computer programming

•

Self-diagnostics, troubleshooting and adjustments

•

Difficult analyses: helium impurities (PPB), H2 impurities (PPB), trace N2 in argon

•

Ionization potentials

•

Automating chromatograms

•

Computer/GC interface and wiring

•

Installation and preventive maintenance

•

Ionization electrometer troubleshooting

•

Flow systems
