Ethics in Action: Managing your next career move 

Are you playing fast and loose with donor lists? With only 51% of professionals staying in the same job for more than 2 years, frequently changing jobs is no longer considered career suicide. But working in the fundraising profession, the job-hopping trend brings up some ethical challenges, and can lead you into murky territory. When normal means moving from employer to employer, from database to database, and from one donor list to another, how do you address the resulting moral dilemmas? You wouldn’t steal money from your employer, but what about bringing your donor list when you change jobs? Taking your list with you to a new employer might be a common practice, but that doesn’t make it the right thing to do.

 

Your personal ethics, your moral code, and your career decision-making stance– these are the guideposts that will make or break your career. In this session, we’ll suggest ethical ways to manage a career move in the fundraising field, and help you identify morally sound strategies for building a successful relationship with your new employer.
