2016 SUMMER ART CAMPS

Summer Art Camp 9:00 am - 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Students will learn all about creative thinking and problem solving while exploring a variety of art materials and processes.  Each day your children will be inspired by the various weekly themes, as they create fun and exciting projects by painting, drawing, building, printmaking, collage, clay and more!  A healthy snack will be provided and, as long as weather permits, the children will enjoy outside play and activities.

Morning Pottery Wheel: 9:00 am – 12:00pm

Students learn the fundamentals of working on the potter's wheel in a real ceramics studio. Students will learn and practice wedging, centering, opening up and making of wheel thrown forms. They will progress through the finishing and glazing processes to complete their projects. Additional ceramics fee is $5.00 per day.  Ages: 8 and up.

Afternoon Ceramics Sampler: 1:00pm – 4:00pm

Each week, unique and fun projects are designed to teach different handbuilding techniques from pinching, to working with coils, soft and leather hard slabs, to using molds and may include beginning pottery skills such as centering on the wheel, and throwing cylinders and bowls. We will explore different methods of surface decoration including texture, sprig molds, underglazes, and sgraffito. There will be new demonstrations, projects and lessons throughout the summer based on student’s interests and abilities that also incorporate the weekly theme of Markeim’s Art Camp. Additional ceramics fee is $5.00 per day.  Ages: 7 and up.
