Omar Al- Ali (Moderator)

Omar Al-Ali is a finance partner based in the London office of Simmons & Simmons, a leading international law firm with offices in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Omar has a particular focus on trade & commodity finance and has acted for banks, corporates and funds on a wide range of products enabling companies to raise financing against the commodities owned by them. With over twelve years’ experience in the industry, Omar has advised extensively on financings, restructurings and insolvencies in the commodities sector and across a number of different commodities classes. Omar is qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales and has an MA from the University of Cambridge, where he studied law prior to beginning his professional legal career.

 

George Martin 

George Martin is a Senior Advisor to Wood Creek Capital Management, a real assets investment manager that is an affiliate of MassMutual and its asset management subsidiary Babson Capital Management. At Wood Creek, he has particular responsibility for matters related to research, portfolio construction and risk management, and a sector focus that emphasizes mid- and up-stream agriculture. He is also an Associate Director for the Center for International Securities and Derivatives Markets (CISDM) at the University of Massachusetts, and a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Alternative Investments. He has been commercially active in commodity indexing for more than a decade. He is regularly called upon to speak on various aspects of the Alternative Investment business, and frequently publishes his research. Previously, he was a Research Fellow at the Brookings Institution. He has a B.A. and M.A. from Johns Hopkins University.

Jason Lejonvarn, CFA

Jason Lejonvarn represents Mellon Capital's investment capabilities throughout the EMEA region. Prior to joining Mellon Capital, Jason was a strategist with Hermes Commodities for five years, responsible for running and development of commodity business. He has previously worked at BGI as a Strategist in their solutions team and then as Head of Portfolio Management for BGI's Hedge Fund Management Group including BGI's Multi-Strategy Fund.  Prior to BGI, Jason has worked for BARRA in both Berkeley, CA and London for 7.5 years; roles ranged from Product Manager, Equity Models to Director of Global Accounts, supporting BARRA's largest European clients and Europe's largest asset managersAuthored various articles including “The Commodity Risk Premium”, “What Makes a Good Commodity Benchmark”, "The Case for Market Neutral" and "The Mechanics of Market Neutral"

Jan-Hein Jesse

is an expert on commercial, financial, and technical aspects in the oil & gas, marine contracting, commodity trading, and the financial investment sector.

Jan-Hein is the owner of JOSCO Energy Finance & Strategy Consultancy, advising oil (service) companies, banks, hedge funds, pension funds, oil trading companies and governments on a wide range of activities related to new business development, markets , price formation, M&A, MLPs and other corporate finance products. He is an non-executive for a global macro hedge fund in London and a family owned fund in Singapore. He is also an senior expert to the IEA, a visiting fellow of the Clingendael International Energy Programme and an editorial advisory board member of the Global Commodities Applied Research Digest (GCARD) at the J.P. Morgan Center of Commodities, University of Colorado Denver Business School

His career spans 30 years including his roles as CFO of Heerema Marine Contractors, a Senior Manager at Royal Dutch/Shell, responsible for the execution of large-scale acquisitions and divestments, and new business developments leading transactions over $1 billion, and Head of Energy Finance department at ING Bank.
