Course Abstract:

Individuals raised in a dysfunctional family or a home afflicted with addiction are more likely to be tormented by negative thoughts and feelings of inadequacy. This atmosphere is so damaging that they develop an inner critic which tells them they are unworthy of kindness or compliments. Neurobiological research shows that shame can hold presence in the body, as well as in parts of the brain, and these areas cannot be easily accessed or resolved through speaking alone. This presentation will focus on how to combat the inner critic through using action.

 Course Objectives:

• Attendees will be able to identify two instances for addressing negative introjects in treatment with patients.
• Attendees will be able to identify two sociometric techniques to use in addressing the negative introjects.
• Attendees will be able to identify two psychodramatic techniques to use in addressing negative introjects.
