2016 Clergy Conference - Preaching Luke, Hope For Our Times

Welcome to the Diocese of Toronto Clergy Conference 2016!  We are planning another great event and look forward to your presence with us. 

This year we are pleased to welcome Canon Dr. Paula Gooder as our Keynote Speaker. Paula is a writer and lecturer in Biblical Studies. Her research areas include the writings of Paul the Apostle (with a particular focus on 2 Corinthians), New Testament Interpretation and the development of Ministry in the New Testament Period but her passion is to ignite people's enthusiasm for reading the Bible today.

She is the Theologian in Residence for the Bible Society and also holds a number of honorary positions such as Canon Theologian of Birmingham and Guildford Cathedrals, Lay Canon at Salisbury Cathedral, a Six preacher of Canterbury Cathedral, Vice president of the Bible Society, Visiting lecturer at King's College, London, and Associate lecturer both at St Mellitus College, London and at trinity College, Bristol. Register Now! The Clergy Conference is open to all paid active clergy, including retired clergy in paid interim roles. Other retired clergy are welcome to attend if places are available. We will be holding a waiting list and will allocate any available places on a first-come, first-serve basis.  If you are interested in being on the waiting list please choose that option and complete the form fully. 

Please note that we will be charged by Brock based on registration numbers, so it is very important that you complete the registration form fully.  Those who register and later find that they are unable to attend should immediately inform Jennipher Kean at Bishop Fenty’s office (905-833-8327 or jkean@toronto.anglican.ca). Cancellations after May 12 will not be refunded in full.

Event Information:

Costs: There is no registration fee for the conference this year.

There will be a fee for three organized social activities, you can find the details below and if you choose one or more of them your registration will not be considered complete until payment is received. 

Preferred payment is by credit card through PayPal. A PayPal account is not necessary - please log in as "guest". If you choose to pay by cheque please note that your registration is not considered complete until payment is received at the Diocese.

Accommodation: Accommodation will be provided in Earp residence at Brock University, a five-storey building located on the east end of campus.  Earp has 250 single air-conditioned guestrooms.  Each is furnished with one single bed, desk, dresser, wardrobe, and telephone. One 4-piece washroom is accessible from each of two adjoining single bedrooms.  An elevator is located in the residence lobby for convenient access to all floors.  There are lounge spaces on each floor, as well as the main Fireplace Lounge.

Following up on responses from the 2014 Conference Survey, we will be designating a "Quiet Floors". If you would like to be on this floor please make sure to check off the correct area on the registation page.

Social Program: There will be many activities available on Thursday afternoon.  Some require pre-booking and payment during the registration process.  Other self-directed options will be available, including golf; board games; and Shaw Festival matinees (www.shawfest.com).  Details will be provided upon arrival.

Pre-bookable options:

  • Local Winery Tour with Niagara Bound Tours. Cost: $62 per person with a 25 person minimum and 35 maximum.
  • On-Campus Japanese Swordsmanship - Cost $20, minimum 8 people, maximum 20 people
  • On-Campus Dance Class - Cost: $20, minimum 8 people, maximum 20 people
