Beginner Self-Defense Class 

Join the A.M.S.I. Foundation at a beginner self-defense class led by instructor Joshua Munoz. Learn common avoidable scenarios, ways to pay attention and be alert, and practice simple moves to keep yourself safe. There will be limited physical activity. Must be 18+ to attend the class. Space is limited, RSVP to reserve your spot.

About the instructor: Joshua Munoz has been training full time in martial arts and in charge of an academy for the past 6 years. He has been training under 7th degree black belt Herman Ocasio, who has 40 years of martial arts experience. Joshua has helped students go from white all the way to black belts and beyond. He was in charge of the progress of 130 students in this program. Joshua is currently a 2nd degree black belt in blended martial arts and will be receiving his 3rd degree in December of this year.

Course Agenda: 60 Minutes

  • 10 mins - Instructor Introduction. Common avoidable scenarios. Ways to pay attention and be alert.
  • 5 mins - Practice wrist grabs.  
  • 5 mins - Practice front and rear chokes.  
  • 5 mins - Practice def against holds.
  • 10 mins - Train with a partner
  • 5 mins - Practice hair grabs.
  • 5 mins - Practice simple striking to keep distance.
  • 5 mins - Practice with partners.
  • 10 mins - Review, wrap up, and questions.

Other information:

Parking downtown Lowell after 6:00 PM is free. Find a space in the Middlesex parking lot or park at a metered space at no charge. Parking in a garage will have a fee and participants are responsible for this fee. 

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. There will not be heavy activity, however, we want to make sure that all participants are able to attempt each activity.
