2016 Our Upstate Vision Forum:

 "The Upstate's Untapped Workforce

Keynote Speaker: Randy Lewis, Former VP, Walgreens

Presented By:

Forum Premier Sponsor:

With a growing economy, the Upstate region is now facing the potential reality of not having enough of an available workforce to meet employee needs. This dilemma calls for collaborative efforts to ensure that some of the previously untapped and underutilized groups of potential employees are identified and engaged. These include veterans, individuals with some type of disability, and people with nonviolent criminal backgrounds.

The Our Upstate Vision Forum will look at how the Upstate can and is working to tap into this important labor pool. The primary focus will be on individuals with disabilities. Individuals with disabilities are an effective, yet underutilized element of the workforce. Keynote Speaker, Randy Lewis, former Senior Vice President of Logistics and Supply Chain of Walgreens lead this revolutionary model of employment inclusion. Lewis will discuss why Walgreens is viewed by many as the global leader in hiring people with disabilities. Their state of the art distribution center in Anderson, SC was designed with a goal of having people with disabilities make up one third of its workforce. Currently over fifty percent of the center’s employees have a disability. Their employees with disabilities meet the same goals, do the same job, make the same pay, and are held to the same expectations as their counterparts without disabilities.

There will also be representatives from multiple underutilized workforce groups in attendance and available to provide material on the various workforce opportunities currently available in the Upstate.

The Greenville Chamber of Commerce, Greenville Society of Human Resource Managers, Ten at the Top, Greenville CAN, Thrive Upstate, and other disability employment services providers have worked together to bring Randy Lewis to Greenville to inspire local and regional businesses to hire more people with disabilities and learn how to build a more inclusive and effective workforce.

The event will be held:

3:00-5:00 p.m. on April 26, 2016

Greenville Marriott, One Parkway East, Greenville SC

About Randy Lewis: Randy is the Founder of the NOGWOG Disability Initiative to assist businesses and communities developing and launching disability hiring programs. As Walgreens Senior Vice President of Supply Chain & Logistics, he pioneered a model that resulted in a more inclusive and effective workforce for the company, improved the wellbeing of the surrounding community, and has had a positive impact for all those involved, with and without disabilities.

Today, more than 10% of Walgreens logistics workforce is composed of people with disabilities who perform the same jobs, earn the same pay and are held to the same performance standards as fellow team members. Considered the “gold standard of disability employment” by the National Governors Association, the program has been subsequently replicated in companies both domestically and abroad including Procter & Gamble, UPS, Lowe’s, Meijer, Marks and Spencer.

Recognized as a "visionary of disability employment advocacy" domestically and internationally. Randy is a soughtafter speaker on the lessons learned that apply to all business and community leaders who seek to make a difference. His 2014 book, No Greatness without Goodness, was named by Fast Company one of its "Ten New Books You Need To Read This Year."
