Mingyur Rinpoche's Teaching, Phoenix AZ, June 21, 2016

Awareness, Compassion, and Wisdom: Essential Teachings on the Joy of Living Meditation Series

The Joy of Living is a path of meditation practice that was created by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. Rooted in the Buddhist teachings of Tibet, these practices work with basic functions of the mind, such as mindful awareness and the impulse to move toward happiness and away from suffering. In working with these qualities of mind, we gradually transform our relationship to present–moment experience, learning to approach our thoughts, feelings, and sensory experiences with unconditional warmth and acceptance. This set of teachings offers a rare opportunity to explore the practice of meditation with Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche as he shares insights from his own meditative experience.

This retreat is suitable for both novice and experienced meditators of all spiritual backgrounds and inclinations. It offers beginning meditators an opportunity to receive in-depth teachings on meditation practice from Mingyur Rinpoche and for experienced meditators to deepen their practice and understanding.

White Tara Empowerment

White Tara is the feminine embodiment of enlightened activity and wisdom associated long life and pacification of obstacles. Also known as the Wish-Fulfilling Wheel, White Tara is one of the main meditational practices of the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. As the empowerment is bestowed, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche will represent the essence of an unbroken practice lineage passed down from the Buddha to Atisha, to the Karmapas and their heart sons the Tai Situpas in an unbroken succession of transmission.

About Mingyur Rinpoche

Born in 1975 in the Himalayan border regions between Tibet and Nepal, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche spent many years of his childhood in strict retreat.  At the age of seventeen, Mingyur Rinpoche was invited to be a teacher at his monastery’s three-year retreat center, a position rarely held by such a young lama. Mingyur Rinpoche has been teaching throughout the world, with centers on five continents. His candid, often humorous accounts of his own personal difficulties have endeared him to thousands of students around the world. His best-selling book, The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness, debuted on the New York Times bestseller list and has been translated into over twenty languages. In early June, 2011, Mingyur Rinpoche left his monastery in Bodhgaya, India to begin a period of extended solitary retreat. In November of 2015 Mingyur Rinpoche returned after four years of solitary retreat. He is currently teaching his monastic and western students living around the world.
