Join us for a Lunch and Learn Presentation featuring Darcy Penner on the value of Social Enterprise on March 31st, 2016 at the United Way Learning Centre, 580 Main Street.

Darcy Penner is a Social Enterprise Policy & Program Co-ordinator with the Canadian CED Network. He has been working in community economic development since graduating from the University of Winnipeg with a BA (Honours) degree in Politics. Starting at CCEDNet in 2013, his role has seen him work with member-organizations to pursue a broad policy agenda through workshops, presentations, budget submissions, policy papers and community-organizing, while specializing in supportive social enterprise policy and research – including coordinating the Manitoba Social Enterprise Sector Survey and the Manitoba Social Enterprise Strategy being co-created with the Province of Manitoba. Darcy was also a contributing author to the Alternative Municipal Budget for CCEDNet-Manitoba.

Also featuring a presentation from Mother Earth Recycling:

Mother Earth Recycling began operations in the fall of 2012, after the Aboriginal Centre of Winnipeg invested in the purchase of Syrotech Industries. Mother Earth Recycling will provide services to residents and many larger corporate clients such as the City of Winnipeg.

Part of the early success of Mother Earth Recycling is due to its innovative collaboration and partnerships. Our social enterprise is owned and operated by the Aboriginal Council of Winnipeg, but all three levels of government have invested some resources in the development phase of Mother Earth Recycling. According to a study by the Aboriginal Council of Winnipeg, investors stand to see an annual social return on their investment that could realize a complete payback of their investment in less than six years. The private sector has also recognized the potential of Mother Earth Recycling by committing to help the social enterprise reach its potential. Responsible Electronics Recycling operates one of the largest electronic recycling facilities in Manitoba and they employ individuals facing barriers to employment.
