Rating Agency Roles in Asian Debt Market: A Chinese Perspective

The HKUST-NYU Stern MS in Global Finance Program is most pleased to have invited Mr Warut Promboon, Chief Rating Officer and a Responsible Officer of Dagong Hong Kong to share his distinct insights on "Rating Agency Roles in Asian Debt Market: A Chinese Perspective". In this seminar, Mr Promboon will discuss:
  • A credit rating: What? Why? Who? And How?
  • Relationship between credit ratings and bonds
  • Asian debt market and where it is heading
  • Criticism on rating agencies

*Participants to this seminar are entitled to one hour of continuous professional training (CPT) requirement stipulated by the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong.


About the Speaker

 

Mr. Warut Promboon joined Dagong Hong Kong in February 2015 as Chief Rating Officer and a Responsible Officer. He and his team rate Asian credits and produce credit research across various industries. Dagong Hong Kong is an SFC-regulated rating agency, based in Hong Kong. Prior to Dagong Hong Kong, he was formerly a Director of Asian Credit Research at Societe Generale and ING as well as a Head of ALM Credit Analysis at Standard Chartered Bank. In his previous publishing role, he was ranked 4th best Asian fixed income analyst by FinanceAsia's 2008 Investors' survey.

 

His credit research career spans over 22 years in the US, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Thailand and entails various capabilities from project finance, leverage finance, credit risk management, sell-side credit research, buy-side credit research, and rating advisory. His experience also spans different geographical specializations (North America, Europe, and Asia) and various industries of both financial institutions and corporates.

 

Mr. Promboon holds an MS in Global Finance from New York University/ Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and an MBA from the University of Kentucky.
