Volunteer Overview + Tips!
WHAT IS BLOCK BUILD MKE?
On May 20-21 of 2016, neighborhood volunteers, corporate sponsors and skilled professionals will provide their sweat equity to make critical repairs, accessibility modifications and basic maintenance tasks on 30 homes in the Walnut Way neighborhood in Milwaukee. This targeted approach enhances our annual Rebuilding Day where we have traditionally selected up to 20 properties throughout Milwaukee County to complete the same tasks. By targeting a specific, cohesive area, Block Build MKE builds upon our mission of revitalizing entire blocks and in turn, communities.
Every project we undertake is unique. Each work site comes with a different history, unique homeowner needs, and its own scope of work. Once deployed, we do everything from yard cleanup and painting, to skilled plumbing, windows, electrical systems and flooring repairs.
As we work to revitalize Milwaukee communities, we also work hard to provide a positive volunteer experience for our sponsors, volunteers, and community partners. The result of year-long planning, evaluating, training, and organizing is a lasting impact and life-changing experience for our volunteers and the homeowners we help.
