Please join us on April 27th from 11:00am - 12:00pm as we present "Communicating Data Using Visualization - Recent Work, Challenges, & Possibilities" with Dr. Robert Kosara, Senior Research Scientist at Tableau Software.
In academia, data visualization is traditionally used for exploration and analysis of data. In the real world, the vast majority of people see a different kind of visualization use, however: presentation. Communicating data to people effectively is a huge challenge and a huge opportunity. We are only starting to understanding how the visual display of data helps, how well people can read visual displays, how much they are engaged by them, etc.
In this talk, Speaker Dr. Robert Kosara from Tableau Software will show some of his recent work on the presentation of data using visualization and talk about where the field is heading.
Robert Kosara is a research scientist at Tableau Software. His focus is on the communication of data through visualization and visual storytelling. Robert is also working on furthering our understanding of visual perception and cognition, so we can make data easier to understand and develop tools to communicate it more effectively. His full list of publications can be found on his vanity website.
Before joining Tableau in 2012, Robert was Associate Professor of Computer Science at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Robert received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. Degrees in Computer Science from Vienna University of Technology (Austria). In his copious spare time, Robert likes to run long distances and write articles for his website, eagereyes.org.
We hope to see you on April27th! And to see the full schedule of Distinguished Speaker and HPC @ Rutgers Seminar Series events, please visit the RDI2 website.
