PRESYMPOSIUM WORKSHOPS
Pre-Symposium Workshop - NPJS-CIPD Position Statement Roundtable Discussion
The NPJS Critical Issue and Policy Direction (CIPD) Committee works throughout the year to develop position statements on critical issues. In the past, these position statements have helped guide local, state, and national policy decisions. This session will allow attendees to participate in the discussion of pending or upcoming position statements and to be actively involved in sharing their thoughts and ideas in this process. Specific topics to be discussed will be listed in the Symposium program book.
LGBT youth are overrepresented in children serving systems including juvenile justice, child welfare and runaway and homeless youth shelters. LGBT youth very often enter these systems having experienced trauma and rejection. Join us for an interactive workshop that reviews the development paths of LGBTyouth, the coming out process, the risk associated with being an LGBT youth, and the protective factors that can address these risk. During the the workshop the Colorado Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Counsel Emerging Leaders Youth Committee will participate with attending in a “what helps – what harms” learning circle to identify tools, strategies and practice changes that will help youth to move from surviving to thriving.Building Your Toolkit for Working with LGBT Youth
Pre-Symposium Workshop - Facility Tours
