Program Description:
Many people know that qualifying for financial aid can bring down the cost of college, but there are more subtle ways to reduce the cost of college for families and more importantly, ensure their children’s success. Financial planner Tanya Steinhofer will provide a quick review of the financial aid process for those curious about acronyms like FAFSA, CSS, EFC and COA, along with a few tips on how to improve a client’s chance of getting need-based financial aid. Then, college consultant Gael Casner will share her approach to college admissions planning that helps students identify, apply to and gain acceptance at the “best fit” colleges and universities. Attending the right college or university can increase the odds that the student will be happy and stay at that school and also increase the odds that he or she will graduate on time. Improving student satisfaction and on-time graduation rate can significantly reduce the cost of college for families and ensure the long-term career and life success of the children.

Speaker Bios:
Tanya Steinhofer, CFA, CFP

Principal, Redwood Grove Wealth Management
After bouncing around the investment industry for over 15 years, Tanya finally found her calling as a financial planner helping families with young children and single women. She really likes calling the shots and not working for “the man”, so she has done everything possible to build an efficient, sustainable practice that allows her to balance work she loves with a life outside of work. While she may not have been quoted in every publication on the planet, she is definitely over-educated for what she does, with an MBA from Berkeley, CFA and CFP designations. She’s also done her part to “pay it forward” with leadership roles in her local FPA chapter and CFA Society. If you are a Facebook friend of hers, you’ll notice she loves mountain biking, skiing and having fun with her husband and two young kids.
