Third Annual AIHEC Behavioral Health Institute

The American Indian Higher Education Consortium is pleased to host our 3rd Annual Behavioral Health Institute at Stone Child College in Box Elder, Montana from May 23, 2016 through May 27, 2016.  This week-long institute will focus upon building the research capacity of Tribal College and University faculty and staff in the fields of behavioral health.

The goal of this Institute further the development of research capacity in behavioral health for TCUs through presentations, research experience of Cohort 1 TCUs, small group breakouts, interactive activities, reflections on readings, and reflection on one’s own research experience. Participants will gain an appreciation of the impact of historical trauma and CBPR strengths and challenges, as well as learn hands-on skills necessary for participating effectively in CBPR projects. Both academic discussions and experiential exercises will reflect a commitment to co-teaching and co-learning.  Participants will have the opportunity to address the application of qualitative and quantitative statistics to behavioral health research and explore ways to more effectively disseminate, share, and use research findings.

This invigorating week-long event will also include sharing valuable information scholarship and publishing opportunities, and provide opportunities to learn about other Tribal College and Native research projects, network with behavioral health experts, and much more.

A room block for this event has been set up at the Best Western in Havre, MT.  Please call the hotel to reserve your room at (406)265-2888.  Remember to mention the AIHEC room block to receive the discounted nightly rate of $95.99.

For TCU participants, there is no registration fee, and some meals will be provided. AIHEC will provide travel scholarships for 20 participants from non-NARCH TCU sub-awardees. For our students and our future, we urge all TCUs to join us!
