Personalized Learning: Innovation Labs and Student Choice, 6-22-16

Speaker: John Chaney

Target Audience: High School General Education teachers, Middle School General Education teachers, Technology teachers

Description:  Students at the Robert D Campbell Jr High School Innovation Lab are not thinking outside of the box, they are building the box as they learn.  Through personal passion projects, students have a voice and a choice in their learning, apply 21st century skills, work with diversity, address challenging problems or questions, participate in inquiry learning techniques, monitor their own progress, reflect upon their work, and establish deep relationships with experts beyond classroom walls.

Join John Chaney, Innovation Lab teacher, to learn how all students are developing project based passion projects; writing proposals; becoming producers instead of consumers while learning academic standards; finding and working with mentors outside of the classroom; and using social media such as Twitter to be transparent in their work.  Participants will learn about the Innovation Lab at Campbell Jr High School, the process in which students take through their own personalized learning journey, and how to implement an Innovation Lab in their own school.
