About our Readers

Kathy Naumann

A Stew & Story evening is one of my favorites! As a native of Thompson, I have the fondest memories of listening to Mrs. Tillen read at The Vernon Stiles as I worked behind the scenes. Over the years, I have even hosted my own Stew & Story parties featuring short stories I wrote.  Of course The Inn feels like home to me, and I am honored to be able to share my enthusiasm for writing and reading with many of our wonderful guests and to offer my gratitude to those gracious and entertaining readers that inspired me.

Vincent Woods
Vincent Woods is retired from a chiropractic career and works as a part time instructor in Human Anatomy and Physiology  at Quinnebaug Valley Community College.

Bill Brower

Bill Brower earned his BA in Philosophy
at Fairfield University, his MA in Education at WCSU and finally attained a PhD in Reading & Statistics at UCONN. He taught Reading class in elementary school and World Studies in middle school for 35 years in the nearby town of Ridgefield, CT. Bill’s favorite part of the teaching day was when he had the chance to read to his class and get them excited about good books! Currently, Bill’s readings consist of history, biography, classic novels and short stories. He and his wife, Lois, lead a short story discussion group for Learning in Retirement at QVCC and have been doing this for several years. Bill likes a story that makes you think, and we at the Inn always enjoy his readings.

Darlene Stubbe

It is lots of fun getting to the "aha" moment of the story with the audience.  Most short stories contain surprise and Darlene surely enjoys those that sneak up on everyone.  Whether loudly or laughingly, the reaction of the audience is the greatest reward to her.

Gwyneth Tillen

Gwyneth Tillen was born and educated in England. Her earliest memory of reading a story aloud was “Winnie the Pooh” to other young children in an air raid shelter during WWII. Gwyneth’s love of literature ran in her family, so it seemed natural to become a librarian, first in the UK and later in America at the Thompson Public Library. She read at Vernon Stiles Inn for their Stew and Story event for many years and is “delighted to be part of a similar program at The Inn at Woodstock Hill”. Her favorite stories are British with a twist in the tale. Gwyneth lets her ten grandchildren take turns sitting on her knee while she draws upon a treasury of children’s literature, uninterrupted by air raids! We look forward to Gwyneth's readings at our Stew and Story event each year.

Pat Krodel

Pat Krodel is a retired teacher/administrator, having spent 24 years at St. Mary School in Putnam. She began telling stories in the late 80's in her classroom and then took classes at Connecticut College which is the home of The Connecticut Storytelling Center.  She has found that storytelling with and for children and adults is extremely rewarding for both the teller and the listeners. Most recently she offered workshops for adults through the LiR program at QVCC.  Everyone has stories to tell! It's fun and so easy!  Share a story today!
