Approaching its third year, the Pathways from Poverty Breakfast attracts opinion leaders from Colorado’s health care, public policy, philanthropic, governmental and nonprofit sectors. The breakfast benefits the Colorado Center on Law and Policy, a nonprofit nonpartisan research and advocacy organization that engages in legislative, administrative and legal advocacy on behalf of low-income Coloradans.
This don’t-miss event offers participants an opportunity to hear an inspiring speaker address economic security and health care – in a casual environment that’s conducive to networking and discussion. Along with a national keynote speaker, CCLP traditionally recognizes two Coloradans with our Champion for Economic Justice Awards. This special honor recognizes a legislative leader and a community member who have devoted their careers to helping low-income families or addressed access to health care.
This Year’s Program
Andy Stern will provide the keynote speech at the 2016 Pathways from Poverty Breakfast. Currently a senior fellow at Columbia University, Stern is regarded as a visionary problem-solver on issues pertaining to poverty and inequality. Modern Healthcare identified him as “one of the key architects of healthcare reform.” As the former president of SEIU, CBS News once called Stern the “most important labor boss in America.” His new book, “Raising the Floor,” explores how a universal basic income for all Americans could rebuild the economy. He’s known nationwide as an innovative thinker and a compelling speaker.
This year, our Champion for Economic Justice Awards will celebrate the work of Sen. Pat Steadman, retiring member of the Joint Budget Committee, and David Butler, a longtime board member and friend of CCLP and other advocacy organizations that provide legal help to Coloradans in need.
