PAL: Personalized Activities for Life

Overview:
There is clear evidence that activities and/or a sense of purpose play a vital role in a senior’s quality of life. Attendees of this presentation will use the PAL (Personalized Activities for Life) form to create an in-depth assessment of their residents so that they may develop customized activities.

Attendees will be able to:

  • Methods to address activity challenges, such as dementia, physical impairment, etc.
  • Identifying resources and support--Utilizing community resources, creating intentional activities, inter-generational programming, concierge services, outings, community involvement and more.
  • Ethics and confidentiality
  • Values, culture, experiences, educationwhat a restraint is and give at least three examples.


Cathy D. Fox, Life Enrichment Coordinater/Activity Director, Providence ElderPlace in Gresham (presenter)
Cathy Fox attended Utah State University studying business administration and sociology. She completed her Activity Director Certification in 2009 as well as specialized hospice training, “No One Dies Alone.”  Cathy has also been trained with Memories in the Making- Alzheimer’s Association Basic Training, and Geriatric Wellness Instructor training. 

Cathy joined ElderPlace in 2010 and has specialized in offering therapeutic activity opportunities for participants. In 2012 she founded the ElderPlace Gresham Academy an extensive program consisting of 6 week class terms with multiple class offerings each term such as beginning ASL, Spanish, cooking, and computers. In 2014 Cathy founded Personalized Activities for Life.
