ISSA Award of Excellence

ISSA Award of Excellence - To honour a member of the Ottawa IT Security community who have distinguished themselves throughout their career by exemplary service to our association, profession and community.

As most of you know, we are presenting the ISSA Ottawa Chapter Award of Excellence posthumously to Wayne Boone.  We are also going to dedicate the award in his honour.  We are looking for interesting and appropriate anecdotes of Wayne's contribution to the Information Systems Security community to use during the dedication.  If you have any, please forward them to Mitch Quinn (president) or Steve Lavergne (vice-president) at your earliest convenience.

Description

This talk will cover emerging threats and risks to the IoT and some of the differences from conventional IT Security practices.  Tyson will consider some of the effects of emerging technologies on IoT security, such as 5G and network virtualization.

This Month's Speaker
Tyson Macaulay is the Chief Security Strategist and Vice President of Security Services at Fortinet. This role involves international business strategy and thought leadership for Fortinet, and developing Consulting Services capacity.

Tyson’s career began as research consultant for the Canadian Federal Department of Communications (DoC) on information networking, where he helped develop the first generation of Internet Services in Canada in the early 1990’s.

Prior to Fortinet, Tyson was CTO for Telecommunications Security at Intel from 2012 to 2015, and Security Liaison Officer at Bell Canada from 2005 to 2012. From 2001 to 2005 he was Director of Risk Management for a U.S. defence contractor - Electronic Warfare Associates and founded General Network Services (GNS 1996 - 2001).

Tyson is also a researcher with lectureship, books (4), periodical publications (dozens) and patents (2) starting in 1993. Tyson supports the development of engineering and security standards through the International Standards Organization (ISO), and Professional Engineers of Ontario.
