The Teachers:

Joanne Winstanley

Since 2001 Joanne Winstanley has held a steady space for the growth and evolution of a robust 5Rhythms community in Victoria, BC, and shared her love of this practice with thousands of students throughout the region. A natural catalyst, she uses evocative music, clear intention, good humour – and her spidey-senses – to consistently create a field where energy moves and healing happens.  As a teacher, student, producer, and collaborator, Joanne holds a deep respect for both the transformational nature of the 5Rhythms practice, and for the unique discovery process of each participant.

Bettina Rothe

Bettina Rothe is a licensed 5Rhythms® dance teacher and has studied healing movement arts, psychology, meditation, and shamanic practices. She has been teaching movement and meditation classes internationally since 1998 including retreats at Hollyhock. Bettina's teaching style is inviting, inspiring and supportive. In her work she balances spiritual elements with practicality, humour and a deep knowledge of human behaviour.

GRATITUDE
A 5Rhythms®  retreat with Bettina Rothe and Joanne Winstanley
September 2 - 4, 2016 at  Stowel Lake Farm
Salt Spring Island, BC

Grateful living begs us to see with open eyes,
feel with big hearts, and act accordingly.”
- Mary Oliver

The food that sustains our bodies. The place where we rest each night. The far-reaching web of relationship – distant and close, human and non-human, difficult and easy – to which we belong.  Each day, we have much to be grateful for. And yet sometimes, especially when troubles arise or when things seem not to be going our way, we can lose sight of the gifts that surround and sustain us.

So how do we grow our capacity for gratitude, no matter what cards we are dealt?

In this retreat we will use the 5Rhythms® movement practice, creative process, and inquiry to explore gratitude as a quality and a perspective that we can invite, explore, and embody. Together, we will move with the questions: What is gratitude? How do we experience and recognize it? How can we cultivate this quality in body, heart and mind?  How can gratitude support us when we are feeling stuck or highly challenged – and how might it help us move in right relationship with our world?  How do we approach gratitude as an active practice, rather than as something we ‘ought’ to feel?

We invite you to join us for time to rejuvenate, rejoice, and restore, supported by the land, food, and beautiful grounds of Stowel Lake Farm.

The 5Rhythms® are an exhilarating and liberating approach to movement that is authentic, inspired and catalytic. It is a workout for body and soul, a moving meditation, a spiritual practice designed to release the dancer that lives in every body regardless of age, experience or condition.

No previous 5Rhythms® experience is required. For those of you on the teacher training path, this retreat counts as a WAVES and HEARTBEAT workshop.
