HEMINGWAY AND NATURE

Thursday, September 8

5:00-6:00 p.m.  Registration and welcome reception in the regional history room and patio

6:00-7:30 p.m.  “Hemingway’s Natures: Field Sports and the Ethics of Travel” by Kevin Maier, Ph.D.

 Friday, September 9

9:00-10:00 a.m.  “Coffee and Curiosities” – an insider tour of local Hemingway artifacts at the Sun Valley Museum of History

10:30-12:00 p.m.  Panel discussion by Boise State University professors: Scott Lowe, Samantha Harvey, Mac Test, Stacey Guill, Clyde Moneyhun

12:00-2:00 p.m.  Break                               

2:00-4:00 p.m.  Discussion of the short story "Big Two-Hearted River": small breakout groups led by Jenny Emery Davidson, Clyde Moneyhun, Mitch Wieland, and Phil Huss

5:30-7:00 p.m.  Keynote lecture by writer Rick Bass at the NexStage Theatre: “Hemingway and Non-Hunted Nature”

 Saturday, September 10

9:00 a.m.  Buses depart from the front entrance of the Library for Silver Creek Preserve  

10:00-11:30 a.m.  Walking tour of Silver Creek Preserve with guide from The Nature Conservancy

11:30 a.m.   Buses depart from Silver Creek Preserve to return to The Community Library

12:00-2:00 p.m.   Break 

2:00-4:00 p.m.  Skiing with Papa: Teaching Hemingway in the Backcountry Snow” by Scott Knickerbocker, Ph.D.

6:00 p.m.  Festival dinner at Town Square Tavern
