Women Owning Woodlands-BBQ & Books!

Women Owning Woodlands is excited to invite you to a BBQ and Book Club event this summer! As we grill up a feast, meet with other woodland owners, swap stories, and learn about the book we’ll discuss in our fall workshop, focusing on the important role woodland owners play in protecting the things we hold dear: pollinators, song birds, our health, biodiversity, and much more.

On the menu will be a variety of BBQ staples, but Elizabeth Spinney, the Invasive Plant Coordinator for VT Dept. Forests, Parks & Recreation will demonstrate some alternative uses for those pesky invasive plants! One way to beat them is to eat them! Or use them to make dye, and much more! Elizabeth will provide recipes, and information on other ways to combat invasive plants.

Whether you’re 16 or 60+, a sole owner or partner, own woodland by choice or circumstance, know something or nothing about caring for the woods, but want to meet others and learn, then Women Owning Woodlands is for you! The changing landowner demographic is not unique to Vermont but rather a national phenomenon and the WOW program was developed to address the needs of women woodland owners.  Meet other women interested in fully embracing the experience of woodland ownership. The evening’s event will be outside. If possible, please bring a pot luck side dish for sharing.

The Book: We will introduce you to and provide a copy of Bringing Nature Home by Douglas Tallamy for your summer reading pleasure. At our fall event, we’ll have a book discussion.

Directions to: From I-91 (Exit 8): Go .2 mi. E on Rt 131 to stop light, turn left on Rt. 5 for 1.2 mi., then bear left on Rt. 44A for 1 mi. (http://www.vtstateparks.com/htm/ascutney.htm)
