HR Workshop for Start-ups and Small Business Owners

Susquehanna SCORE, the five-county non-profit small-business mentoring and education service, and the Shippensburg University SBDC, are partnering to produce a special workshop on HR Essentials for Small Business. The three-hour session will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at HACC-York, 2101 Pennsylvania Avenue, York, PA, 17404, in the Goodling Building, room YG110. Kellie Boysen, MBA, PHR, SHRM-CP, and owner of Alternative HR, will lead the workshop sponsored by Express Employment Professionals.

The goal of the workshop is to provide details about how HR issues can impact a small business, such as what actions will keep a business out of HR legal trouble, and what initiatives can create a positive work environment that lowers employee turnover.

 The HR Essentials workshop is specifically designed for start-ups and small business owners who want to hire top talent for their team. The workshops will answer questions such as: When and how do I obtain background checks? What can I ask in an interview? What’s a proper way to let an employee go?

 In addition, content and discussion will cover compliance in light of the ever-changing legal and legislative environment. One key topic will be the new Fair Labor Standards Act/Overtime rules that go into effect December 1, 2016.
