Spain has earned the right to be called a leader in innovation and generation of advanced solutions for water treatment. The country is not only the largest user of desalination technology in the Western world, but also was the first one to use it: Spain built Europe’s first desalination plant 51 years ago.

Today, Spanish companies make up the largest percentage of competitors on the international market for design, engineering, construction and operation of new desalination plants. In fact, three Spanish companies are amongst the top 10 desalination plant suppliers by contracted capacity in the last decade. These companies, and the ones that provide a wide variety of equipment and technology for desalination plants, have not stopped growing and improving both in costs and efficiency. Spanish companies have received multiple awards by worldwide recognized institutions in the water industry, not only for designing and building the largest plants in the world, but also for their cutting edge desalination technology.
