Laity Day with the Bishop 2016

Indiana Conference laity will join together to discuss what it means to be a fruitful leader at the 2016 Laity Day with the Bishop.  All laity are welcomed and encouraged to attend, not just those who are designated as Lay Leaders in our congregations.  This event will feature speakers and workshops all geared towards fruitfulness, leadership, and relationships.  The Board of Laity and the Leadership Development Team hopes that you and other laity from your church will join in for this event and time of discovering your own leadership potential.  The event will be a time to work together, to reflect and think through how we can have an impact on our congregations and the world.

Cost:  Free to attend the event only; Optional lunch must be purchased at the time of registration for $10.  There will be no lunches available for purchase on the day of the event.  You will have 1 hour for lunch to go out if you prefer.

Payment Method:  Online credit card processing by PayPal.  You do not need to have a PayPal account.  Check payments must be mailed within 7 days of your registration.  All checks must be received by October 5, 2016.

Registration deadline:  Wednesday October 5, 2016 at 11:59 pm

Cancellation Policy:  All cancellations must be received by email (lisa.timmerman@inumc.org) by October 5, 2016 to receive a refund less processing fees.  No refunds for cancellations received after this date.

Childcare:  Childcare will be available for $7 per child per hour.  You must request childcare during the registration process.  We are unable to accomodate walk ins.

Workshop Choice:  During the registration process you will choose one workshop for Session 1 and one workshop for Session 2.  The same workshops will be offered during each session.

Workshops:

Lead the Way–Laity and Leadership:  All persons in the church must be equipped and empowered to lead for the sake of vibrant congregations.  Laity play a powerful role in leading change and embracing change in the congregation.  You can help lead the way.

Welcoming the Next Generation:  There are many myths about why those in younger generations aren't filling the pews of our churches.  What is the truth about the next generation of Christians?  How can your congregation embrace them as the church of today?

New Places for New People:   Is your church struggling to reach the growing population that's uninterested in church?  Studies show that they are more likely to join new faith communities.  A growing number of United Methodist churches are doing just that.  Learn how your church can be a part of this exciting movement of God.

Missions and Advocacy:   Disciples are called to spread the gospel, do good works, and fight injustice.  Sometimes we need encouragement and resources to act on our passion to serve others.  Come learn, share, support, and consider ways to put action to your passion.

Generosity and Gratitude:  Does your congregation cringe whenever stewardship is mentioned?  We are called to be generous and give out of gratitude and yet often we are closed off when money is mentioned in church.  Help your congregation and leaders develop a deeper value of stewardship that inspires them.
