The 47th Ohio River Valley Soils Seminar (ORVSS XLVII) will present the geotechnical aspects of the Louisville – Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges Project. The $2.3 billion project is divided into two parts: the Downtown Crossing and the East End Crossing. Both parts address long term transportation needs in Louisville and Southern Indiana. The Downtown Crossing includes construction of a four-span cable-stayed bridge carrying northbound traffic on I-65 across the Ohio River between Louisville and Jeffersonville, performing rehabilitation of the existing Kennedy Bridge to carry southbound traffic on I-65, and reconfiguration of interstate approaches on both sides of the bridges. The East End Crossing, about 8 miles upstream of the Downtown Crossing, includes construction of a three-span cable-stayed bridge, construction of a tunnel, and reconfiguration of KY 841 and I-265 in Indiana to connect the east end of Louisville, near Prospect, to southern Indiana, near Utica. The seminar will focus on the geotechnical aspects of both the Downtown Crossing and the East End Crossing.
