  • a forum for programs from across the state to network and get a state-wide perspective on domestic violence services
  • professional and organizational development opportunities for domestic violence advocates
  • an overview of NYSCADV's 2015-2016 activities and plans for the upcoming year

PRESENTERS

NYSCADV is pleased to announce the following presenters for the 2016 Annual Meeting:

Keynote Presenter: Attorney Jill Davies

Jill is the deputy director of Greater Hartford Legal Aid, Inc. (GHLA) and directs Building Comprehensive Solutions to Domestic Violence, a key initiative of the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence, in collaboration with GHLA. Her advocacy on behalf of family violence victims spans three decades. One aspect of her work is the conception and continued development of the victim-defined approach to advocacy. She has written and consulted extensively on issues of importance to family violence victims, including advocacy and safety planning, poverty, and legal issues. The author of numerous articles and materials regarding violence against women and family violence, her writing encourages critical thinking and supports improved practice. She is the co-author of the book, Domestic Violence Advocacy: Complex Lives/Difficult Choices, Sage Publications (2014). Other publications include: Advocacy Beyond Leaving: Helping Battered Women in Contact With Current or Former Partners, (Futures Without Violence); Supervised Visitation Programs: Information for Mothers Who Have Experienced Abuse, (Futures Without Violence); and Confidentiality and Information Sharing Issues for Domestic Violence Advocates Working with Child Protection and Juvenile Court Systems, Greenbook National Technical Assistance Team NCJFCJ, FWV, APHSA) and a series of papers about domestic violence and the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996.

Mary Lauby, Consultant

Mary Lauby

Mary has spent more than 35 years in various leadership roles working to end violence against women and other gender-based violence. Mary is currently the Director of Communications and Program Development at Prevention Innovations Research Center at the University of New Hampshire, a research center dedicated to gender-based violence prevention. She also continues to serve as an independent consultant on topics such as organizational and board development and policy analysis for non-profit organizations. As a state coalition director, a state funder of crisis services and a local domestic violence program director in Massachusetts and Wisconsin, Mary’s work has focused on state and federal public policy advocacy, organizational development, advancing sexual and domestic violence primary prevention, homicide prevention, social justice, and trauma-informed and evidence-based policies and practices. Mary is currently an appointee to the Board of Health in Salem, Massachusetts and has served on the boards of directors of several state and national organizations, including the National Network to End Domestic Violence, and numerous advisory groups, including the U.S. DOJ/DHHS National Advisory Committee on Violence Against Women, UW Madison Medical School Oversight and Advisory Committee, and the Firearm Advisory Committee of the Medical College of Wisconsin.. Lauby has collaborated with researchers, policy makers, advocates and communities throughout the U.S., and in Europe and Nicaragua. She has received numerous awards for her work on state and national domestic and sexual violence public policy as well as with underrepresented communities. Mary is a mother, a grandmother, a gardener, a sometimes-artist, and a golfer.

Elizabeth Santiago, Executive Director at the Center for Safety and Change

Elizabeth has been an activist in the domestic violence/ sexual assault movement for over 19 years. Elizabeth has been worked at the Center for Safety and Change since 2000 and is currently the Executive Director. Prior to joining Center for Safety & Change, Elizabeth worked as the Domestic Violence Response Team Specialist/Trainer for Passaic County in the State of New Jersey, as Coordinator for Safe Horizons at the Bronx Criminal Court and as the Project Coordinator/Shelter Counselor at the Passaic County Women’s Center, a division of the New Jersey Association on Correction. Elizabeth serves on numerous local and statewide coalitions and boards such as the New York State Office of Victim Services Advisory Council, the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team, the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence Steering Committee. Elizabeth also served on the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NYSCADV) Board of Directors from 2007-2012, the Legal Aid Society of Rockland County Board of Directors, and the local board of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program, . Elizabeth is also an alumna of Leadership Rockland class of 2007. Elizabeth was the co-founder of the Boston College Archbishop Oscar Romero Scholarship for students who demonstrate a balance in academics and community service and serves on the Boston College Organization of Latin American Affairs (OLAA) Advisory Committee. Elizabeth graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and has a Certificate in Non-Profit Sustainability from Cornell University.  

Kellyann Kostyal –Larrier, Executive Director at Safe Homes of Orange County

Kellyann has proudly served since 2010, as the Executive Director of Safe Homes of Orange County where she works alongside amazing women and men every day that work towards eliminating domestic violence, teen dating violence, and human trafficking through provision of services, outreach, and education. Prior to Safe Homes, Kellyann was the Project Coordinator for the Universal Response to Domestic Violence in Dutchess County.  She started her career in Warren County, NY at the District Attorney’s Office as their Senior Victim Specialist.  Kellyann is committed to social justice and advocating for a place where all relationships are equitable and free from oppression.  Kellyann operates within her personal and professional life challenging the continued objectification of women and girls and its long term impact on society as a whole. She is serving in her sixth year on the board of Planned Parenthood Mid-Hudson Valley. Kellyann resides in Dutchess County with her husband and their three children.
