Show your love for art in this fascinating class using a unique encaustic painting method of transferring ink to a thin layer of beeswax on plywood. The words “LOVE”, “BEER” or "WINE" will be used as the template. Apply selected pieces of colorful recycled magazine paper, sand it, spray it with water, and then rub the paper away. This process leaves the ink from the magazine on the beeswax and results in a mosaic-like field of color that makes up the larger shape of the letters. This piece of art is then sealed and will be ready to hang on your wall or give as a gift to that special someone.
Class Fee: $50 (includes supplies)
Randy L. Purcell is originally from Paducah, Kentucky. After holding a wide variety of jobs from serving in the Army Reserve to working at a uranium enrichment plant, he moved to Nashville looking for a change, but not entirely sure what he was looking for. He enrolled at Middle Tennessee State University's Art program and in 2009 graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art. Randy has since continued to work in several media, but for the last few years he has focused on his encaustic paintings. His work can be found in corporate and private collections throughout the United States and public art projects in the Nashville area.
