Young Children with Special Needs in Early Childhood Programs PLC

Many children who enroll in early childhood programs have individual special needs - physical, cognitive, communication, or behavioral challenges. At other times, the child’s needs are identified only after the child enrolls.  Whether identified before enrollment, or after concerns are raised by the educator, additional information and adaptations to the program are required in order to support the child’s growth and learning.  The series will include topics related to meeting the needs of children with special needs who attend early education and care programs.

Each session will take place from 6:30 – 8:30 PM.

Participants will:

  • Describe various types of special needs or disabilities and how it impacts learning, program activities, and families.
  • Explore information about specific types of special needs or disabilities that children may have, and recommended strategies to meet those needs.
  • Use resources for including children with disabilities in early education and care programs.
  • Share experiences of challenges and successes with children with special needs or disabilities.
