VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT COLLEGE CREDITS:

A new EPS Subsidized College Coursework application is a NEW requirement for Educators wishing to enroll/register for an EPS College course. We partner with Bridgewater State University  to offer coursework at a cost to the educator of $100.00. The Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) has prioritized Degree Attainment for Educators in the Commonwealth.  In support of the priority, the EPS grant subsidizes college course work that is intentional and supports

  • Educators to earn a certificate, credential and/or degree in ECE or in a related  field, or;
  • Programs to meet staff professional development or education requirements for accreditation or QRIS.

Our college offering will be posted on our website (www.cdedu.us/SEEPP).  To ensure that all educators enrolling in one of the EPS courses meet the intent of the grant, all interested Educators MUST complete the application that will be linked to each flyer. Upon review of the application, Educators will be required speak with our Career Advisor, PRIOR to the application being submitted to the college offering the requested course.  At the time of application, educators MUST pay the $100 fee for the course or the application will not be proceed. This fee will be reimbursed should SEEPP or the college not admit the Educator.

Priority will be given to educators that are currently working in one of the EPS Region 5 towns.

You may contact us with any questions at 774-273-1773 as we work to implement this new process. While change is often a bit confusing, we are confident this extra step will ensure the requirements of the grant as well as support Educators in meeting their professional development needs

By completing this application it does not mean you have been accepted into this course.  SEEPP will review your application and you will be contacted by our career advisor.

 ECPK 321:  Project-Based, STEM-Rich Learning in Early Childhood, Birth-K

Course Description: Early educational experiences form a critical foundation for children’s logical orientation towards the world and its people.  This course will look at the dynamics of implementing emergent, integrated curriculum at the birth-K level that is inclusive, interactive, and child-centered, incorporating all the domains of development.  We will explore the premise that young children are thinkers, problem solvers, and explorers, deserving of environments that offer rich learning opportunities.  Special attention will be given to practices that support young children’s exploration of early mathematical concepts and everyday scientific phenomena – practices that are child-friendly and meet the State’s Guidelines for Preschool Learning Experiences in the areas of mathematics, science, and technology.

Students in this course will be expected to critique and extend issues and techniques raised in the readings and in class discussion, then reflect upon how they can or will apply them in their own early childhood settings.  This course is one of the core requirements of BSU’s concentration in Early Education and Care, Birth-K.

Course Objectives

Consistent with the BSU School of Education’s Growth of the Professional Educator model and its three themes of professionalism, effective practice, and collaboration, upon completion of this course the student will:
1.    Recognize the standards-based aspects of their current practices and how to communicate the value of these to parents, administrators, and policy-makers.
2.    Be able to align their practices with National and State early childhood curriculum standards.
3.    Implement a transformational curriculum (NAEYC, 1992) that is responsive both to content standards and to children’s interests and current understandings.
4.    Incorporate more mathematical and scientific activities into the environment, daily routines, and weekly activity plans.
5.    Facilitate children’s investigations and problem solving in helpful, encouraging, nonintrusive ways, through skillful observation, listening, questioning, and scaffolding.
6.    Examine and share personal experiences and best practices ideas with fellow preschool practitioners in a supportive and collegial manner.
