Duets: The Harmony of Reading Teachers and Librarians

As literacy specialists, school librarians have always worn numerous hats, and now we are being called upon to sport yet another. Numerous school librarians are now charged with participating in reading intervention. Plus, with continually shrinking budgets, some school systems are eliminating literacy coaches and reading specialists. Where does that leave our students who need more intense reading intervention? Librarians to the rescue! Join this session to learn how to support Differentiated Instruction for increased literacy support.

Virtual Trainer: Deborah Parrott
Deborah Parrott is Associate Professor and Graduate Program Coordinator for School Library Media at East Tennessee State University. Her experience includes over 25 years as a school librarian and classroom teacher. She has also been involved extensively with the public library setting, having been the Manager for the Lee County (Florida) Talking Books Library for a time. She has served on the International Literacy Association’s Children’s and Young Adult Awards Committee as well as the YALSA Popular Paperbacks Committee. Additionally, she will be serving on the 2018 Edwards Committee. She was rescued by two hairless Chinese Crested dogs and continues daily to cater to their whims in Johnson City, Tennessee.
