SOCHE Teagle Assessment Workshop 

This workshop is designed for people who want to kick-start, reboot, fine-tune, or extend an assessment project at their institutions. The workshop will bring together teams from a variety of schools and backgrounds to engage in both independent and collaborative work to develop plans that they can implement upon their return. Finally, the workshop will be structured to support a wide range of assessment projects including general education assessment, departmental assessment, using NSSE or other survey data as part of an assessment planand assessment approaches for particular programs or components of student experience such as first-year programs, academic advising, or diversity experiences/inclusivity.

Thursday, February 9

Registration (outside of room 116)

Introduction and orientation for the workshop

  • Presentation on best practices and lessons learned about assessment
  • Review of the agenda and discussion of the assessment project planning template that teams will complete during the workshop 

2:30–5:00 p.m.

Team time

5:00–5:45 p.m.

Panel discussion

  • Just-in-time assessment advice and Q&A with the facilitators

6:00–7:00 p.m.

Dinner

Friday, February 10

9:00–10:00 a.m.

Paired team meetings

  • Pairs of teams will meet with one another to review their plans, discuss roadblocks, and give one another feedback and suggestions

12:00–1:00 p.m.

Lunch

1:00 – 1:45 p.m.

Breakout sessions

  • Three or four smaller sessions led individually by facilitators on some area of assessment. Teams can send one to two members to each of the sessions. The session topics will be based on the pre-conference proposals, but examples might include best practices in using rubrics, surveys, general education assessment, standard assessments, and collaborating with Teaching & Learning Centers.

1:45–3:15 p.m.

Team time to finish plans and create posters. Facilitators will circulate to answer questions and/or provide guidance 

3:15–4:15 p.m.

Informal poster session on project plans 

4:15– 5:00 p.m.
