Art Direction for Food Photography: Concepts, Visual Understanding, and Hands-On Simulation

This workshop will deconstruct and highlight the details of successful food photographs and will deliver information and hands on experience that will equip the food entrepreneur with an understanding of how to successfully art direct a food photography shoot.  Accompanying the lecture will be a bank of images for visual example and intuitive understanding.  After the lecture, attendees will form groups that will simulate a creative team and will work within given guidelines to create the art direction for a food photography shoot.

About The Speaker

Joe Bankmann is a food photographer who has been conducting shoots in chicago for various marketing firms, chicago restaurants and chicago publications for 5 years.  Prior to shooting he learned the craft and business working as a digital and lighting tech on advertising photography shoots for corporate food clients like McDonalds, Kraft, Kellogg’s, Oscar Mayer and Nabisco.  Joe works to construct authentic and natural scenarios where food interacts with propping and the crafting of light to create narrative images that invoke the familiarity of touch and appetite appeal.  See examples of his work at:  www.Joebankmann.com.

This seminar is produced by The Hatchery, a collaboration between ICNC and Accion Chicago to bring education, capital, and support to the Chicagoland food entrepreneur community. Food entrepreneurship programming is funded in part by:
