For the Morning Session

Morning Session: 9:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Featuring Mike Robertson
"No Power and No Point: Why Your Slides Suck & How to Make 'em Soar

Blaming PowerPoint for boring slides is like blaming the paintbrush for a lousy painting. Mike Robertson is a nationally-known expert in creating amazing, magical slides for his own presentations--he earned raves at the NSA convention in San Diego in 2014, in D.C. in 2015, and the NSA Tech Lab last fall. This idea-packed workshop will give you dozens of ways to transform your own slides into works of art that will delight your audiences and help them retain your information much longer.

Mike incorporates his eclectic background in graphic design, magic, and music to make slides like you’ve never seen before. He has designed slides for luminaries like NSA president Ruby Newell-Legner, entertainer extraordinaire Jason Hewlett, Rita Craig, and many others. Patricia Fripp told him, “You are a rock star! I had no idea you could do those things with slides.”

If you use slides, you’ll be blown away by how many great ideas you’ll get. And if you’ve never thought slides were necessary for your speech, you’ll be amazed at the possibilities. You’ve never seen slides like this before.

Find the Right Match: How Decision Makers Choose the Right Speaker for Every Event

Get a look inside the minds of the people who book speakers--what are they looking for now? We’ve lined up a panel of highly placed decision makers from a variety of perspectives, including speakers bureau, association, and corporate marketing/event planning. You'll want to hear their insights on the state of the speaking business, key trends and opportunities.

Panelists: Lisa Hickey, VP Professional Development for Northern California Human Resources Association; Engelina Jaspers, former VP Marketing for HP and Flex; Miriam Lopez, Program Chair for Network of Executive Women-Northern California Chapter, and Senior Diversity Advisory for Chevron; Suzanne McIntosh, Head of Large Enterprise Events at Paypal; Katrina Smith, Agent and President, Keynote Speakers.

Lunch Discussion:  How Do We Create Association Engagement?

At Influence 2016, sociologist Josh Packard got the convention buzzing about his surprising research findings on the changing nature of association participation. (Hint: The talking head is dead.) What do these changes mean for speakers and for NSA-NC? Order a box lunch and join us for lively table discussions, facilitated by your colleagues who attended the 2016 convention.

Lunch orders are no longer available.   The Sofitel also has a restaurant and small deli open for your convenience.
