ASCE Seattle Section Meeting

September 14th 2016

Please join us for the Seattle Section's first monthly meeting for the 2016-2017 year! It will be at Mirabella. There will be a social hour, followed by dinner and a presentation.

Program - Updates on Sound Transit 3 (ST3) Plan

Sound Transit has begun the process to shape a Sound Transit 3 (ST3) ballot measure that voters will consider in November 2016. ST3 will build upon the existing mass transit system of light rail, commuter rail and bus services. To learn more about ST3 visit soundtransit3.org.

Speakers - Trinity Parker and Rick Capka

Trinity Parker has over 15 years of experience in the field of Government and Community relations.  She joined the Sound Transit team in November 2005 to work on outreach initiatives in East King County. In this role she was responsible for working with jurisdictions and key stakeholders on the Eastside as Sound Transit developed plans for the implementation of East Link light rail and other transit projects.

In 2014, Trinity took on the Government & Community Relations role for the Seattle/Central corridor for the agency. In this role she is responsible for working with the City of Seattle, King County, the Puget Sound Regional Council and regional stakeholders on Sound Transit projects and initiatives as well as working on regional transportation policies.

Prior to joining Sound Transit, Trinity was Vice President of the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce where she was responsible for communications and general operations. Prior to that she was a Government Affairs coordinator with Rowley Properties, a diversified real estate firm in Issaquah, WA.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Western Washington University.

Trinity is a co-founder of and currently serves on the steering committee for Women Eastside and is a graduate of Leadership Eastside. She and her family live in Issaquah.

Rick Capka is a Principal Construction Manager for Sound Transit and is currently assigned to the Northgate Link Extension.  For the past 12 years, Rick has worked almost exclusively on Sound Transit construction projects, as both a consultant and Sound Transit employee.  His Sound Transit project experience includes the C710 Beacon Hill Tunnels and Station, the U230 Capital Hill to Pine Street Stub Tunnel TBM Tunnels, the U215 I-5 Undercrossing Construction Pits, and the N125 Northgate TBM Tunnels from Maple Leaf to the University of Washington. 

Prior to his work with Sound Transit, Rick served in the US Army for 6 years as an Engineer Officer stationed at Fort Lewis, WA, where he was assigned to a combat heavy construction battalion delivering projects both locally and abroad.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Washington.
