Topic:
College Financial Aid Demystified

Speaker:
Frances Fee

Program Description:
The college financial aid process can seem daunting and confusing to many. This presentation will offer an overview of the need-based financial aid process - how the expected family contribution is calculated and how demonstrated need is determined.  Frances will discuss how different schools calculate financial aid, when home equity and net business value are considered, how student and parental assets are evaluated, how contributions from relatives affect aid, and what situations can be addressed as special circumstances.  The presentation should help you appreciate the challenges your clients face as their students apply for college need-based financial aid.

Speaker's Bio:
Frances Fee has worked as a financial aid consultant for 13 years, and consults for approximately 300 families each year.  For the past 7 years, she has spoken at 10 schools a year in Marin County, San Francisco, and the East Bay.  She is certified by CASFAA (California Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators) and NICCP (National Institute of Certified College Planners), and is a member of HECA (Higher Education Consultants Association).  She is a graduate of UC Berkeley, and the mother of three college graduates.

*This presentation has been approved by the CFP Board for 1.0 hour of CE credit.
