Whether in the corporate world, or the field of play, good leaders needto be authentic and connected to their followers and environment.  Professor Lucy Gilson and UConn Baseball Head Coach Jim Penders will discuss how finding yourself as a leader is an emergent process that evolves throughout one’s career and is something that leaders need to be tuned into at all stages of their leadership journey. They will examine the importance of role-models, modeling behavior, and finding one’svoice as a leader, as well as exchange views on themes such as how to repeat and sustain success.

Jim Penders is the Head Coach of UConn’s baseball team and has completed his 13th season at the helm of the program. A four-time conference Coach of the Year, Penders has overseen one of the most successful stretches in the 120-year history of UConn baseball. Penders has led his squad to 30 or more wins in 11 of his 13 years at UConn.

Dr. Gilson, a Professor and the Management Department Head, also serves as the Academic Director of the Geno Auriemma UConn’s Leadership Conference. Her areas of expertise include leadership, managing organizational change, women in business, and team creativity.
