Social Group Work with Adolescents combined with Family Therapy

The Tulane School of Social Work is proud to present a 3-hour CEU workshop by Dr. Marvin Clifford entitled "Social Group Work with Adolescents combined with Family Therapy". The workshop will be held at the Tulane School of Social Work, located at 127 Elk Place, on Saturday, Dec. 3. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with the program starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 1:15 p.m.

This presentation will begin with emphasizing skills for social workers, counselors and therapists that are effective in working with the group work method combined with separate family therapy sessions. Case vignettes will be used to illustrate concepts. The theories used will be explained and discussed in the context of culture, evidenced-based practice models and unique client and family situations. Power Point, hand-outs, audience participation, video and interactive dialogue will be the primary teaching methods. Dr. Clifford will ask audience members to share their cases and ideas also that may contribute to the effectiveness of helping this client population. A positive interactive climate will be invited.

Learning Objectives
Participants can expect to become familiar with
:

  • Group work models for helping adolescents;
  • Theoretical models for helping adolescents and their families that are evidenced practiced based; and
  • Strategies that are helpful for working with adolescents in family therapy combined with group work.

About the Presenter
Dr. Marvin Clifford is with the Ochsner Health Systems as the Director of the EAP programs and the Director of Group Therapy. He has been with Ochsner for over 25 years and works with individuals, families, couples, groups as well as children, adolescents, and adults. He is an LCSW and has been on the adjunct faculty with the Tulane School of Social Work for many years. He earned this doctorate degree in Social Work from Tulane University. Additional roles include supervision, administration, teaching, writing, research and direct practice. He does local and national presentations on many topics.

Registration Fees and Payment
The registration fee is $60. Please fill out the online form to register. Payments can be made via credit card or via check or money order (payable to Tulane School of Social Work). If you pay by check, payment should be mailed immediately after completing the online registration form. Your registration is NOT complete until we have received your payment.  Please mail your payment to:

Please fill out the registration form, but your final registration is predicated on receiving your payment. Once your payment is received, you will receive an e-mail confirming your registration into the program, and you will be guaranteed a spot at the workshop.

CANCELLATION POLICY -- In the event you cannot come to our program, it is important for you to notify us before the program begins, either by email (preferred) at psternbe@tulane.edu or via phone at 504-231-6618.  We will refund the registration fee if notified before the event begins, but after the event begins, there are no refunds.

The Tulane School of Social Work is located at 127 Elk Place. Please see the location map.

You can enter the school via the 2nd floor skywalk from the Saratoga Parking Garage, located at 111 S. Saratoga St. To find the skywalk, go to the second floor elevator lobby, walk into the parking garage and follow the yellow posts to the skywalk. Once you enter the Elk Place building, go down the hall to the elevators and take them to the third floor.
